Custom WordPressplugins, built forone site

A custom WordPress plugin adds a feature to one site that WordPress and off-the-shelf plugins can't provide. We offer custom WordPress plugin development for product catalogues, configurators, forms that connect to other systems and other jobs that are specific to one business.

Who it’s for

When a site needs its own plugin

  • Sites running several plugins to do one job, where one plugin built to fit would be simpler.

  • Businesses that need a catalogue, a configurator or a calculator built around their own products.

  • Businesses that want a form to pass what it collects to another system and act on the answer.

  • Teams that want to manage website content from a spreadsheet they already keep.

When it isn’t a fit

Where an existing plugin already does the job well, we recommend using it. Software your team works in outside WordPress is covered by our Bespoke Software service.

What’s included

A plugin built for one site

A custom plugin is installed and switched on like any other WordPress plugin. It can add its own kinds of content, pages, admin screens and connections to other systems.

The feature lives in the plugin and not in the theme, so it carries on working when the theme is changed or updated.

Custom WordPress plugins are quoted per build, once we've scoped the work.

Includes

Custom post types, Shortcodes, REST endpoints, Admin screens, Product configurators, PDF spec sheets and reports, Google Sheets publishing, Form integrations.

WordPress plugins we’ve built

A product catalogue with a configurator, and identity checks run from a form.

Architectural FX

A product catalogue and configurator

Architectural FX keep their lighting catalogue in a Google Sheet and publish to the website from a menu in the sheet. One plugin holds the catalogue and runs the products page, the product pages and a configurator that produces spec sheets. It replaced three plugins.

The configurator is shown as an example screen, redrawn with sample data.

  • Each update is signed, so the site only accepts changes that come from the sheet.
  • The products page can be filtered nine ways, including colour temperature, wattage and IP rating.
  • In the configurator, options that don't go with an earlier choice are greyed out, and the product code builds as options are picked.
  • The specifier adds their project details and downloads a PDF spec sheet, or asks for a quote.

Equivo, in testing

Identity checks from an instruction form

A plugin that connects Equivo's online instruction forms to LexisNexis for identity and anti-money-laundering checks. When a client submits a form, it confirms straight away and the checks run in the background. It replaces a paper-and-email process, and is in testing ahead of launch.

The picture is an example screen, redrawn with sample data.

  • Where an ID document and face check is needed, the client gets a secure link and completes it on their phone in a couple of minutes.
  • The firm's team get a branded PDF report by email for every submission.
  • A failed check never blocks an instruction. It's flagged to the team to review.
  • Returning clients don't repeat the ID and face check every time. Risk screening still runs on every instruction.

How a custom WordPress plugin project works

We scope the work and quote before anything is built. Each custom WordPress plugin is quoted per build.

  1. Scoping

We go through the job with the people who do it now, and agree what the first version needs to do.

  2. Design

We design the screens your staff and your customers will use, and agree how it connects to the systems you already have.

  3. Build

    Quoted per build

We build the first version and connect it to your store or site.

  4. Testing

    Switched off until you're ready

It's installed behind a switch, a preview mode or on a staging site, so your team can check it before customers see it.

  5. Maintenance

We keep the plugin working with new versions of WordPress.

  6. Ongoing development

    Quoted per request

After launch it keeps changing with the business. Your team sends feature requests, we scope and quote each one, then build it.
